    Frage Cross the pond 2009

    Hello everybody

The last aircraft with a slot finally left Zurich direction west and the event is over (for the swiss part).
Now we'd like to get a short feedback, how good was the slotmanagement, the atc controllers, the event itself? Should we make another one or better stop this "cross the pond" events?

Only with your feedback we can improove our service and plan our events better.

Special thanks to: HP Rutschmann, Tobias Schlegel,
Raffael Walther, Dieter Brugger, J_rg Gänsli, Marco Wittwer, Roman Frei and Pascal Wenker for the great job!

And of course thanks to all pilots who flew from/to Zurich.

    I departed as SWR169 at time 1226z with my MD11 on RWY34.
I was really surprised about the quietness of the frequencies! There was enouth time for all the pilots (in contrast to Oceanic Delivery... ). It took me about 15min from startup to takeoff which I did exactly on my slot time.
(Wasn't actually a slot! A slot starts at a time and ends at a time, so what was that slot time for In the forum you wrote about a +- 5min time frame around that slot time, nonetheless I was ready at 1223z (slot time 1226z) and Mike said sth. about me being to early...)

I really enjoyed departing from my home airport with a big fat MD11.

    Gruess Pascal,
    z.Z. zwüsched 59N/40W und 58N/50W...

For me, it was really nice, altough some pilots seemed to have left the cockpit to return 5min before slottime. Most of the traffic behaved very well

Thanks to all, pilots and controllers, especially Tobi and HP, who had always time for the ones who missed their slot.

Came online, prepared the aircraft for departure and just when I was ready, HP gave me the clearance, pushback and startup approved, taxied to Rwy 34. No traffic, no delay - perfect! Thanks a lot for the service, it was lot of fun!
Unfortunately Squawkbox didn't want me to finish the flight - just switched to oceanic but didn't receive any voice. So I tried to restart the squawkbox, but the splash screen didn't want to go away: "Loading vatsim network information..." So I wanted to restart FS and reload the saved flight - but autosave wasn't installed, so I had to abort my flight
    Next time...

Thank to all pilots. Most of them did a very good job and the rest was a nice challenge for me at slot-control. No one complained about the waitingtime after he missed or requested a slot.
For me it was a good experience to manage slots. I liked it! I had a good work-together with HP on DEL.

I also want to thank those who stayed online after and before their shift or stayed online without a shift! That shows encouragement for our vACC.

At last a big thank for our controllers who made a very good job today! I'm looking forward for our future events. With the quality we showed today it's pure fun!

Well planned and well organized! Kudos to the guys in charge here.

On Radar during my first shift no problems...good spacing between the departures. Reims and Paris were on for about 2 hours then closed without any notice. I felt not very comfortable sending all those pilots to Unicom on such a big event.

Later while on S_GND I experienced pilots disconnecting/getting disconnected and come back a few seconds later the slot time was lost in the strip. Maybe we find another/better way to announce slottimes between controllers.

Besides this minor flaws I had a great time and I am looking forward to the next CTP from or even to Zürich.

Well, it actually WAS planned otherwise.
But we couldn't persuade the tool to get running, and only due to the fact that Toby and I were dispatching/delivering from the same location, we could avoid a major headache ...
Nevertheless, I'm happy that the backup solution (21" Monitor with the departures' List he maintained and I acted upon) worked out good enough.
Besides, he had to maintain the online DB for transatlantic controllers and to assign new slots. *LookingForTheSmileyWithSmokingHead*

Anyway, I'd suggest that - one of these days - we should re-evaluate our tools upon
    - stability (Does it work under heavy load?)
    - usability (easily to adopt to an event, easily to be tought to new controllers)
    - knowledge (who is able to really use them?)
    - maintainability (do we have access to the source or (better ) to the programmer? )

Maybe this could be done for
    -LSD
    -DGCT
    -Slothelper
-Markus' web solution we used at the last SwissFIR Weekend

    I'm ready to help.

    Hallo

    Super Video!
