Don your party hats and bring out the cake; vACC Switzerland is blowing out its 14 candles on the 1st of March 2023. With 14 years of flying, controlling and training still fresh in our memories, how better to celebrate this momentous occasion than with a nationwide event displaying some of the best this country has to offer. Fly between Basel-Mulhouse (LFSB), Geneva (LSGG), Bern (LSZB) and Zurich (LSZH) from 19:00z to 21:00z for an unforgettable evening of festivities and celebration.
Basel-Mulhouse – LFSB (Charts | Scenery)
This tri-national city is a fitting metaphor for the different cultures and languages Switzerland boasts, drawing pilots of all shapes and sizes onto its crossing runways. Fly IFR into this bizjet and cargo hub to enjoy proficient ATC guidance, or perhaps opt for VFR and enjoy views of the majestic Jura in its night-time garb and Basel’s bustling city centre.
Geneva – LSGG (Charts | Scenery)
With Geneva, we celebrate our mountains and lakes; this airport is nestled between the iconic Alps and signature Jura mountain chains, making for dramatic views and daunting challenges for ATCOs and pilots alike. With quickly changing topography and steep descents, you will quickly learn why its regular flyers call the speedbrake the “Geneva lever”. And views of its gleaming eponymous lake is the perfect sight to end your flight or send you on your way to your destination.
Bern – LSZB (Charts | Scenery)
Bern, Switzerland’s executive hub, represents for us complex procedures and unique approaches. With its signature City- and Romeo-circlings, Bern offers a suite of challenges even for the seasoned pilot. Enjoy scenes of the dramatic Aare cliffsides and perched Old Town buildings but remain focused on your approach as towering mountains and daunting geography remain close by. With its limited apron size, Bern is best enjoyed through the windscreen of a bizjet or GA aircraft.
Zurich – LSZH (Charts | Scenery)
Finally, Zurich is our hub for high traffic and large airliners. Our flagship major airport, it can welcome all aircraft in its midst, with precise approaches, long runways and many ATC stations to guide traffic efficiently. Needless to say, you can expect late landing clearances and immediate takeoffs during its peak hours, so keep your eye on the ball and your ears peeled for those imminent instructions. Though it is a busy, dense and complex airspace, our ATCOs will be only too happy to welcome you to our largest and most popular airport.
We are eternally grateful to our members and frequent visitors for their support, hard work and diligent efforts. Join us in raising a toast to our vACC and fly with us on this Wednesday evening!
