Default New Feedback System for Supervisors

The VP SUP of the BoG has shared to following information to the Staff. Please read below his statement. Furthermore a new bunch of SUP's are currently in training and online time should increase over the next weeks/months.

To better identify strengths/weaknesses and improve the Supervisor Department's service to our user base, I have updated our ticketing system (https://support.vatsim.net) to add the help topic "Network Supervisors / Supervisor Feedback". I encourage all controllers to utilize this help topic to provide both positive and negative observations regarding specific Supervisor interactions. As with any report, please ensure that you provide context and evidence where available. The ability to resolve feedback will be directly based on the information and evidence provided. I would like to strongly encourage submitting feedback so that we can be aware of any issues that exist regarding the resolution of incidents/reports.

I'd also like to take a moment to briefly discuss why we utilize a ticketing system instead of accepting email submissions. We currently have approximately 120 Supervisors spread over 6 teams, each with a Team Lead. The department is too large for any one person to manage entirely on their own. As a result, I lean heavily on the team to triage, review, and assign cases. As a result, we need an effective system to receive & ensure that none of them fall through the cracks. The previous method of receiving reports via email was simply not sustainable. Through the use of the ticketing system, we are able to ensure that reports are tracked to completion.
If you experience any strange situation with a Supervisor, please provide a neutral and detailed feedback over there. This way they can identify possible problems and hopefully improve the experience for everyone. Also feel free to reach out to me if you face any problems. I will also forward the feedback to the Division where the problem is already detected, they will have a close look over the next months if the problems with SUP's decrease or not.

If you have some free time and want to contribute to the community, feel free to apply as a VATSIM Supervisor. Please read this post if you are interested. Feel free to contact me if you need me as a reference.

As we all know, 8.33 kHz is not supported by VATSIM at the moment but would bring some benefits. Therefore the goal of VATSIM is to implement 8.33kHz in the future. Below you will find a statement of a BoG member about this topic.

Short update on where we currently stand in regards to 8.33kHz as it's a hot topic at the moment!
We are currently tracking simulator and aircraft usage on the network to determine which percentage of users is compatible with 8.33kHz.

Based on our preliminary findings, my team has drafted a list of decisions that we believe have to be made:
    - Percentage of flights to support before allowing use of 8.33kHz on the network.
    - What would the implication be of a firm no on Prepar3D development from popular addons like FSLabs / PMDG, which currently do not support 8.33kHz?
    - How are flights that do not support a requested 8.33kHz channel to be handled operationally?
    - Should new software be developed to enable 8.33kHz channels in unsupported add-ons, or do (current) solutions in pilot clients suffice?

Once all questions have been answered and all requirements have been met we can announce our intentions as VATSIM to introduce 8.33kHz to the network. A date to go live will need to be set and communicated to the community. We will also inform add-on developers that don't support 8.33kHz yet, so they can create updates for their addons if they want to support it on VATSIM.

We are also tracking simulator and aircraft usage and compatibility during the next edition of Cross the Pond as part of our ongoing investigation.

As CTP is right at the start of Q2 2023, I don't expect to have any big updates or changes regarding this topic before Q3 2023.

    Default 8.33 kHz Frequency trial

    Dear Members

As you hopefully already have seen on the VATSIM Channels there will be a trial phase for 8.33kHz frequency beginning from 7th September 2023 and will run a maximum of 3 months. You can find the full announcement with all relevant information on the VATSIM Forum.

As controller there are no big changes, some frequencies of neighboring sectors in Germany may change during this trial phase. As usual, everything will be integrated in the sectorfile.

Default Global Controller Administration Policy (GCAP)

    Dear Members

As you hopefully saw on the different VATSIM Channels, the Board of Governors finally approved a version of the new Global Controller Administration Policy (GCAP). It will become effective on 1st March 2024 0001 UTC. You can find the Policy on the VATSIM docs page.

We will now review the policy and we will also have to wait what the Division (VATEUD) will change in the VATEUD Policy. So until then, no final decision can be made. We hope that we will soon have all the relevant policies so we can see, what we need to adapt in vACC Switzerland and especially our Training System.

The Staff was informed at the same time about the final version of the policy as you. So if you have any question at the moment, please ask us but don't expect that we can answer all the question at the moment due to the circumstances.

    For the vACC Staff
