    Default VATSIM Velocity

    Dear Members

As you hopefully already have seen on the VATSIM Channels, Velocity is finally here! With Velocity the refresh rate of position updates for aircrafts will raise from 5 seconds to five times per second. A big step for VATSIM! Great to see that we are with Velocity and Audio for VATSIM definitely the leading virtual Network

On 31. January at 22:00z they will release Velocity to the Network. For this, the servers will be down for around 30-45 Minutes. Once they are back up it will be communicated via Social Media as well the VATSIM Discord.

For Pilots: Please update your Pilot client as stated in this post.

For Controllers: Nothing to do for you this time. All Clients are ready for Velocity.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

    Best regards

    Ramon

Does this apply from a specific release version of Euroscope?

As far as I know not, at least r26 which everyone should have. Euroscope will still only be able to update every 5 seconds so the controllers will not have a better experience (yet?) from this update.

Which matches more or less the update rate for a CTR position

vSTARS is supporting Velocity for pilot clients connected to it (Tower View).
Ross announced that eventually vSTARS will support a 1Hz rate.

I guess the same might eventually happen to ES...

Let's see how long it takes before the ATC clients include a variable to steer the update rate. Most CTR positions are, as Michael wrote, somewhere around 1 update every 5 seconds. Some airports, such as Innsbruck, interrogate SSR once a second, but that's probably the exception.
