    Default Staff the Minors

We are happy to present to you our newest event format! With “Staff the Minors”, we will staff different Minor Airports in different regions in Switzerland. Each time, enjoy 3 medium and smaller airports on offer which we are happy to open for you. This time we will start with Staff the Minors – Romandie on the 16th January from 13:00z to 16:00z. Come and fly IFR or VFR at LSGS, LSGG and LSZB.

    Sion – LSGS
Located in the Rhone valley, Sion offers some impressive mountains around it to be explored in your favorite GA Aircraft. If you are up for some challenging IFR approaches, Sion is definitely your choice. With the interesting IGS or RNP approach, you can enjoy some awe-inspiring views of the Valais and a unique challenge for yourself. Leave your B747 in the hanger, Sion can only handle one A320 or B737. Make sure to be prepared with a good briefing and charts on board.

    Geneva – LSGG
Being the second largest airport in Switzerland, “Minor Airport” is probably the wrong term. Able to handle almost any aircraft type, you can fly in with whatever you prefer. Explore the scenic Lake Geneva or head to Sion over the narrow Rhone Valley. Fly some VFR patterns and then enjoy your trip over the different lakes, with some touch and goes at some smaller airfields along the way to the capital of Switzerland, Bern. Come with charts on hand.

    Bern – LSZB
Welcome to the capital city of Switzerland! If you are coming from the French speaking parts of Sion and Geneva, you are now over the so called “Röstigraben” and have entered in the German speaking region of Switzerland. While runway 32 is active, prepare yourself for the challenging City or Romeo Circling over Bern’s Old Town and make sure to have charts onboard. Again, only aircraft up to the A320 and the B737 can be handled at LSZB. But who needs an A340 when you can explore the scenic landscape between Bern, Geneva and Sion in something smaller?

We hope to see you on this Sunday afternoon from 13:00z to 16:00z in Swiss airspace!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Default [13th March] Staff the Minors - Around Jura

After our successful first opus, vACC Switzerland is proud to announce the return of our "Staff The Minors" event. During these events, 3 medium and smaller airports are fully staffed with our eager and proficient ATC. For this edition, Staff the Minors - Around Jura on the 13th March from 13:00z to 16:00z, we encourage you to explore and enjoy the rolling mountains and picturesque Jurassic scenery. Fly IFR or VFR at LFSB, LSZB and LSZG.

    Basel-Mulhouse – LFSB

Whilst not a “Minor Airport” per se, Basel couples the dynamic and vibrant city-life with a signature natural beauty. Follow the Rhine through the city centre as you approach this cross-border airport at the foot of the towering Jura mountain range. With 2 intersecting runways and a tight commercial apron, this airport will be sure to keep you on your toes. From scenic VFR to commercial wide-body twinjets, Basel has something for everyone, but be sure to come with charts on hand.

    Bern/Belp – LSZB
Welcome back to the Swiss capital! A prominent feature in our last edition, Bern was a popular destination for pilots looking for a challenge. If runway 32 is in use, be sure to diligently prepare for the renowned City or Romeo Circling over the historic Old Town and be sure to keep your charts handy. Only aircraft up to the A320 or the B737 can be accepted into Bern and that with a limited capacity, so ditch your long-haul airliners and be sure to fly in with your favourite bizjet or maybe a smaller GA to enjoy the scenery.

    Grenchen – LSZG
If you are looking for general aviation, look no further. Grenchen is the hub of Swiss GA and flight training, delightfully nestled at the northern edge of the Central Plateau and surrounded by smaller airports such as Les Eplatures, Bressaucourt and Biel-Kappelen. Tackle the unique RNP approach into runway 24 or fly visually for a breathtaking departure over Lake Biel and an unforgettable route along the Aare river. This airport cannot accommodate most medium-haul aircraft, so bring your skills, your charts and your favourite general aviation airframe for a truly unforgettable experience.

We look forward to welcoming you once again this Sunday from 13:00z to 16:00z in Swiss airspace!

Default [15th May] Staff the Minors - Follow the Rhine

How better to celebrate a warm and sunny spring then with a tour of our more unique airports? By popular demand, vACC Switzerland is proud to announce its third "Staff the Minors" event, and its last opus before the summer break. This time, we invite you to visit Switzerland's northern borders with a "Follow the Rhine" edition, this Sunday 15th of May between 12:00z and 15:00z. Travel along this historic landmark river and fly IFR or VFR between EDNY, LFSB and LSZR for a truly tri-national event.

Friedrichshafen - EDNY (Charts | Sceneries)
Sitting on the banks of the Lake of Constance, Friedrichshafen has long been a European hub for GA enthusiasts. With 4 aprons, a glider strip and a capable runway within a stone's throw of Zurich, Friedrichshafen never fails to impress with its breath-taking views and aviation pedigree. And with real commercial routes operating out of this cross-border airport, the choices are endless.

    Basel-Mulhouse - LFSB (Charts | Sceneries)
A staple of our last edition, Basel was a popular destination for GA pilots and commercial aircraft alike. Its bustling city centre and signature Jurassic scenery always make for a picturesque experience that is sure to keep you intrigued. Fly in a twin-aisle commercial jet and navigate the tight apron, or perhaps try your hand at some VFR action to take in the view; Basel always has exactly what you're looking for.

St. Gallen Altenrhein - LSZR (Charts | Sceneries)
With by far the shortest runway, a tricky arrival flow and intricate VFR procedures, Altenrhein is not for the faint-hearted. Lying at the foot of the towering Alps and nestled between busy airspaces, this airport is sure to keep you poised and on your toes. Just across the lake from Friedrichshafen, Altenrhein is the perfect hub for pilots who want a challenge. But with a tight apron and narrow runway, best to leave your commercial jets in the hangar.

Default [21st August] Staff The Minors - Ticino

With summer upon us and the sun beaming down, the timing could not be better for a tour of Switzerland’s iconic southern border and a visit of the idyllic and historical towns nestled among the Alps. vACC Switzerland presents its fourth “Staff the Minors” event returning after the summer break by popular demand. To start the new season of events, we invite you to a “Ticino” edition this Sunday 21st of August between 12:00z and 15:00z. Fly along the Alps and visit LSZA, LSZL and LSZS to enjoy some of the best landscape Europe has to offer.

Lugano – LSZA (Charts | Scenery)
Just on the shore of its eponymous lake, Lugano is a picturesque and landmark city where you can fly along beautiful landscapes and say hello to our Italian colleagues just over the border. But be sure to keep your eye on the ball; with dramatic topography, steep approaches, complex circlings and a tight apron, Lugano is the perfect stop for those pilots looking for excitement. Keep your charts handy and your wits about you as Lugano tests your capabilities.

Locarno - LSZL (Charts | Scenery)
Situated just north of Lugano, Locarno boasts 3 small runways (2 of which grass) and a strong military pedigree. Locarno is the ideal destination for the keen VFR pilot looking to soak in the beautiful sights and tackle some unique geography. Leave your airliners in their hangars and come fly in a small GA aircraft or glider to enjoy glistening Lake Lugano in its breath-taking panorama.

Samedan - LSZS (Charts | Scenery)
Though not in Ticino per se, Samedan is featured by popular request and understandably so. As the highest airport in Europe, carefully nestled between towering mountains and massive glaciers, Samedan is a real challenge even for seasoned pilots. Don’t let the long asphalt runway fool you; though the airport can accommodate most bizjets and even some BBJs, the area is known for its imposing terrain and uniquely challenging instrument approaches. Make sure you have carefully prepared before trying your hand at a truly daunting arrival that will keep experienced pilots on the edge of their seats. Diligent planning and an intimate knowledge of the region are needed so keep your charts nearby and prepare for an impressive and unforgiving airport.

Default [10th December] Staff the Minors - Christmas

What better to sign off on 2022 than an all-star line-up of the most popular versions from our now iconic franchise? Well vACC Switzerland is bringing its “Staff the Minors” back for a special “Christmas” edition that will feature our members’ favourite airports this Saturday 10th of December from 13:00z to 16:00z! Enjoy some of the best aviation experiences Switzerland has to offer brimming with expert ATC services at LSGG, LSZB, EDNY, LSZR, LSZS and LFSB.

Geneva – LSGG (Charts | Scenery)
Arguably the least “minor” of the selection, Geneva offers a perfect mix between idyllic scenery and high traffic. A popular airport for both IFR and VFR pilots, most types of aircraft are welcome to experience the jewel of the Swiss Romandie. Fly an approach over its iconic lake or depart surrounded by impressive mountain ranges, Geneva really has something for everyone.

Bern – LSZB (Charts | Scenery)
If you’re looking for a little more complexity, Bern is the place to be. While runway 32 is active, prepare yourself for the challenging City or Romeo Circling over the Old Town and make sure to have charts onboard. Only aircraft up to the A320 and the B737 can be handled at LSZB. But who needs an A380 when you can explore the signature Bernese landscape in GA style?

Friedrichshafen – EDNY (Charts | Scenery)
Its proximity to Zurich and aviation history make Friedrichshafen a strong contender for the aviation enthusiast. Its scenic views and impressive facilities have seen both private pilots and airlines flock to its runway, and when you fly over the glistening Lake of Constance, we’re sure you will quickly understand why. Enjoy 4 aprons, a glider strip and a capable runway within a stone's throw of Switzerland’s largest airport.

St. Gallen Altenrhein – LSZR (Charts | Scenery)
What if we combine a short runway with a busy airspace, complex procedures and daunting mountains? Well we get a good challenge for seasoned pilots, and Altenrhein is a worthy candidate. A short hop from Friedrichshafen, Altenrhein is best enjoyed through the windscreen of a GA aircraft or small bizjet. Fly in VFR for an especially memorable flight at the foot of the Alps and enjoy signature Swiss views all along the way.

Samedan – LSZS (Charts | Scenery)
Perhaps the towering majesty of the Swiss Alps are calling you in for a closer look. Amidst the valleys, peaks and sheer drops, you’ll find Samedan, the highest airport in Europe. Don’t be fooled by its long runway and BBJ visitors, an airport nestled among some of Switzerland’s most intimidating terrain presents some key challenges even to the more experienced pilots. Needless to say, plan diligently before tackling its unforgiving land-scape and uniquely complex instrument procedures.

    Basel-Mulhouse – LFSB (Charts | Scenery)
Amidst your Alpine journey, do not forget to experience the historic and breath-taking Jura mountains by visiting a truly tri-national city. Basel seamlessly combines an intriguing VFR experience with seasoned IFR capabilities. From twin-aisle commercial jets to small piston aircraft, Basel welcomes them all to appreciate its cultural city centre and unique Jurassic views that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

So come enjoy the holidays and welcome a new year with us this Saturday from 13:00z to 16:00z in Swiss airspace!

The start of a new year is the perfect occasion to bring back one of our more popular event franchises; the “Staff The Minors” is back for a triumphant return on the 15th of January 2023 between 13:00z and 16:00z. Join us for a trip “Around The Jura” as we explore some of the best views our northern mountain ranges have to offer. Fly IFR or VFR between LFSB, LSGC, LSZB and LSZG.

    Basel-Mulhouse – LFSB (Charts | Scenery)
With an iconic urban landscape and breath-taking natural beauty, it’s easy to see why Basel is quickly becoming a new fan favourite. This tri-national city invites you to enjoy views of the crystal-blue Rhine and take in the majesty of the snow-capped Jura while you plan your arrival into an intriguing and scenic airport. But don’t get too distracted; with crossing runways, large airliners on final and VFR traffic abound, be sure to keep your charts handy and your eye out for traffic.

Les Eplatures – LSGC (Charts | Scenery)
Nestled in the midst of the Jura mountain chain is an assuming yet unique airport; Les Eplatures. Its short runway and impressive elevation draw bizjets from around the world who try and tackle its steep approaches and offset procedures. Or perhaps hop in a GA aircraft and practice some VFR among the daunting terrain and impressive landscape, overlooking La Chaux-de-Fonds and the whole of the Swiss Plateau. But with a tight apron and limited parking, be sure to have charts on board, expect delays and taxi with care.

Bern - LSZB (Charts | Scenery)
Circling procedures, dramatic terrain, winding rivers and unique scenery; Bern is the place to be if you’re looking for a challenge. This memorable airport will have you appreciate the signature Bernese landscape whilst tackling complex procedures as our talented ATCOs guide you every step of the way. Fly in VFR and enjoy the views around you, or perhaps file IFR and tackle the signature City- or Romeo-Circlings that is sure to put your skills to the test.

Grenchen - LSZG (Charts | Scenery)
You’ll understand very quickly why Grenchen is the GA capital of Switzerland. Nestled between our country’s iconic mountain chains, Grenchen is your one-stop shop for flight training and unique procedures. In the mood for a sightseeing trip? Look no further, as this historic airport can offer some of the best views of the Aare river and the picturesque Lake Biel. You’ll never be short on destinations; Grenchen is surrounded by airfields that all have something unique to offer. With the Jura to its north and the Alps to its south, Grenchen never disappoints and is sure to provide a memorable experience for all those who fly near it.

With this tried and tested edition, we hope 2023 gets off to a flying start. We look forward to welcoming you in Swiss airspace and seeing you this Sunday 15th from 13:00z to 16:00z!

Wichtig [Cancelled] Staff The Minors - Cross The Alps

    To our pilots and controllers,

Good evening all. Unfortunately, owing to poor staffing and sequel to decisions made within the Administration Department, we have decided to cancel our Staff The Minors on the 16th of April (tomorrow) due to a lack of controllers, especially at the CTR level. We appreciate the unfortunate nature of this news but are confident in the emphasis on safety, foresight and prudence that this decision helps ensure. We sincerely thank all those who have booked stations for tomorrow and hope to see you at our other events planned for this Spring!

Default [10th September] Staff The Minors - Romandy

Summer holidays slowly nearing an end? Well don’t pack up your sunglasses just yet; vACC Switzerland is bringing back its popular “Staff The Minors” franchise with a special “Romandy” edition that is sure to showcase some of the most unique airports our French-speaking regions have to offer. Enjoy splendid summertime service at LSGC, LSGG and LSGS from 12:00z to 15:00z on the 10th of September.

Les Eplatures – LSGC (Charts | Scenery)
As you fly through the tortuous peaks and valleys of the signature Jura mountain chain, you will find nestled among the hills a unique and iconic airport; Les Eplatures. This daunting aerodrome boasts both a short runway and challenging elevation renowned the world over for its complexity and enchanting beauty. Whether through the windscreen of a GA aircraft or the champagne glasses of a bizjet, enjoy views of the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds and the whole of the Swiss Plateau.

Geneva - LSGG (Charts | Scenery)
As the second largest airport in Switzerland, “Minor Airport” is maybe a stretch but this valuable addition is a true jewel of the Romandy. Adorned with views the scenic Lake Geneva and both the Jura and Alpine ranges, Geneva is an ideal bookend for your journey across the region. With a long runway and impressive apron, this busy hub is eager to please and awaits your visit.

Sion - LSGS (Charts | Scenery)
The Rhone valley is home to more than just breath-taking views and skiing destinations; surrounded by the towering peaks is Sion airport. So, take your favourite GA aircraft and enjoy VFR flying and unique views, or perhaps opt for a bizjet and tackle the steep IGS or winding RNP approaches. But with a tight apron and narrow taxiways, best leave your airliners at home and be sure to have your charts on hand.

This edition really is one for the photographers among us, with scenic sights and unmatched scenery truly showing some of the best this region has to offer. So if you are up for a challenge, a photo and maybe a sunburn, join us this Sunday afternoon for a flight to remember!

Default [21st January] Staff The Minors - Follow The Rhine

What better way is there to ring in a new year than by exploring unique airports, snow-capped peaks and signature scenery? By popular demand, vACC Switzerland is proud to announce the return of its "Staff the Minors" franchise, inviting you to visit Switzerland's northern borders with a "Follow the Rhine" edition, this Sunday 21st of January between 13:00z and 16:00z. Travel along Switzerland’s longest river and fly IFR or VFR between EDNY, LFSB and LSZR for a memorable cross-border event that is bound to impress.

Friedrichshafen - EDNY (Charts | Sceneries)
When picnicking on the shores of Lake Constance, be sure to keep an eye out above you for planes on short final to a renowned GA hub. Friedrichshafen Airport, with its 4 aprons, glider strip and capable runway lies within earshot of Zurich, offering a variety of flight options for the true aviation enthusiast. But don’t be fooled by the small planes and scenic approaches; with real-world commercial routes operating out of this breathtaking aerodrome, be sure to keep your eyes peeled and your charts handy.

    Basel-Mulhouse - LFSB (Charts | Sceneries)
Though the term “minor” remains a stretch for this bustling destination, Basel combines the capacity and facilities of a European hub with the views and sights of a spectacular VFR must-see. Poised on the foot of the towering Jura, Basel and its charming Old Town has something for everyone, from the most ardent sightseer to the cargo pilot on a busy schedule – and with a tight apron and dense airspace, you’ll be kept on your toes.

St. Gallen Altenrhein – LSZR (Charts | Sceneries)
Short runway, dense arrival flow, intricate procedures and complex circlings – Altenrhein is an illustrative example of an airport built to stretch your skills. Most cannot resist the siren call of the gorgeous Alpine backdrop, but the imposing terrain and difficult environment are bound to test and excite those looking for a bit of a challenge. Leave your commercial jets in the hangar and dust off your GA skills at an airport that is sure to intimidate and impress in equal measure.

So do come and ring in the new year in Swiss airspace, where we look forward to welcoming you this Sunday 21st from 13:00z to 16:00z!

Default [25th August] Staff The Minors - Along the Jura

Explore the Swiss Minors! Get your charts ready for a relaxed yet rewarding event across three of Switzerland’s charming airports. Join us as we staff Basel-Mulhouse (LFSB), Bern (LSZB), and Grenchen (LSZG) for a day of smooth flying and stunning views on the 25th of August between 12:00z and 15:00z. Fly over the Jura Mountains and enjoy the greenery as you approach these well-equipped airfields. With friendly and professional ATC support, you’ll be in good hands from takeoff to touchdown. Dust off your controls and join us for a fun day in the Swiss skies!

    Basel-Mulhouse – LFSB (Charts | Scenery)
Nestled at the crossroads of three nations, Basel is a city where stunning urban landscapes meet breathtaking natural beauty. As you gaze upon one of our busiest airports and the majestic Jura mountains, you’ll find yourself captivated by this vibrant destination. With intersecting runways, busy airline traffic and a bustling mix of VFR traffic, this event promises beautiful sights all around. Make sure to keep your charts ready and your ears open for ATC instructions!

Bern - LSZB (Charts | Scenery)
With dramatic terrain, winding rivers and beautiful scenery Switzerland’s capital is a truly unique destination. Fly an IFR approach right over the Bernese old town, test your skills on thrilling circling procedures or just enjoy the beautiful sights of the city and the crystal-blue Aare on a VFR flight. All this kindly assisted by our proficient and talented set of ATCOs.

Grenchen - LSZG (Charts | Scenery)
Grenchen, also known as the GA capital of Switzerland, offers a broad variety of interesting procedures. Just aside of the Jura mountains rests one of the busiest VFR airports in Switzerland, heavily used for training, also by the Lufthansa Aviation Training. Whether you're in the mood for a scenic flight, Grenchen offers unparalleled views of the Aare river and the stunning Lake Biel. The adventure doesn’t stop there—this busy airport is surrounded by many small airfields, each with its own charm. But don’t be fooled by the masses of VFR traffic - if you decide to fly IFR a tricky RNP approach awaits you!

We look forward to welcoming you at one of our airports on this Sunday in Swiss skies!

Default [8th December] Staff The Minors - Christmas

Are you in the mood for winter yet? If not, it's high time, because we're inviting you to the second Christmas edition of our "Staff The Minors" event series! Once again we are combining our most popular airfields across the country. It's time to take your GA plan
e out of the hangar and enjoy some of the most beautiful views that our country has to offer. From crystal blue lakes to stunning mountains and beautiful landscapes, explore the most impressive sights Switzerland has to offer! Join us on Sunday 8th December from 13:00z to 16:00z as we staff LSZS, LSGS, LSZB, LSZR and LSZG. Take your GA aircraft out of the hangar and dust off your charts, you will surely need them!

Samedan - LSZS (Charts I Scenery)
Situated in the heart of the Engadine in the Swiss Alps, Samedan promises impressive views as you fly to or from Europe's highest airport. Samedan offers a number of challenges, the altitude being one of them. Whether you take off VFR and fly over one of the mountain passes, or follow one of the challenging IFR approaches, you'll be in for a treat!

Sion - LSGS (Charts I Scenery)
Welcome to the beautiful countryside of the Valais, where Sion is located. Don't be fooled by the length of the runway and its ability to handle an A320, Sion certainly has some challenges and interesting procedures to offer. Whether you want to explore the Rhone Valley on a VFR flight or challenge yourself with one of the interesting IGS or RNP approaches, Sion is the place for you!

Bern - LSZB (Charts I Scenery)
An all-time classic, the Swiss capital is always worth a visit. If the runway concept allows, be prepared for one of the challenging circle-to-land approaches after flying directly over the old city of Bern. Although the airport is capable of handling A320s, it has limited capacity for aircraft of this size, so we recommend that you visit in one of your GA aircraft.

St. Gallen Altenrhein - LSZR (Charts I Scenery)
As one of the busiest GA airports in Switzerland, flying to Altenrhein is never boring. Situated on the shores of Lake Constance and at the foot of the towering Alps, Altenrhein promises beautiful sights all around! The complex airspace over Lake Constance is sure to keep you entertained, whether you fly VFR or IFR!

Grenchen - LSZG (Charts I Scenery)
At the foot of the Jura mountains lies Grenchen, one of the most famous VFR airports in Switzerland. Nicknamed the "GA capital of Switzerland", Grenchen is known throughout the country. Whether it's for its airspace filled with VFR aircraft on a beautiful day, or for its interesting IFR approach, Grenchen is an adventure not to be missed!

We hope to see you at one of our airfields on the 8th of December from 13:00z to 16:00z to really celebrate the start of this year's festive season!

Default [2nd February] Staff The Minors - Cross The Alps

What better way to experience the snow-covered Alps and take in the breathtaking alpine scenery than from the cockpit? vACC Switzerland warmly invites you to kick off the new year with our latest "Staff the Minors", showcasing the majestic beauty of the Swiss Alps in all their winter splendour. Join us on the 2nd of February from 13:00z to 16:00z for a scenic alpine adventure, flying between LSGS, LSZA and LSZS!

Sion - LSGS (Charts I Scenery)
Welcome to the stunning Valais region, where Sion is nestled in the heart of the Rhone Valley, surrounded by towering peaks. Whether you're exploring the valley on a scenic VFR flight in your favourite GA aircraft or taking on the challenge of one of Sion's famous IFR approaches, there's something for everyone. The IGS or RNP approaches offer a unique challenge with breathtaking views of the Alps. Just remember to leave the big jets at home - Sion is better suited to smaller aircraft. With a narrow apron, narrow taxiways and challenging terrain surrounding the airport, proper preparation is a must!

Lugano - LSZA (Charts I Scenery)
Situated on the shores of its beautiful lake, Lugano is a picturesque city offering stunning scenery and the chance to experience some of the Italian charm that spills over the border. But don't let the scenery fool you - Lugano is a real challenge for even the most experienced pilots. With dramatic topography, steep approaches, complex turns and a narrow apron, it's a destination that will test your skills. Keep your charts handy and stay alert as Lugano is sure to take your flying to the next level. For those looking for an exciting challenge, this is the perfect stopover.

Samedan - LSZS (Charts I Scenery)
Located in the heart of the Engadine Valley, Samedan is Europe's highest airport, surrounded by towering peaks and glaciers. Although its long runway can accommodate larger aircraft, the airport's challenging terrain and complex approaches are no easy feat. Whether you're flying VFR over the spectacular mountain passes or navigating one of the airport's tricky IFR approaches, Samedan offers a real challenge. The high altitude and rugged surroundings require careful planning and preparation, so keep your charts handy. With its stunning views and demanding conditions, Samedan will put even the most experienced pilots to the test.

Join us on the 2nd of February from 13:00z to 16:00z for a winter flying adventure over the snow-covered peaks and breathtaking Alpine scenery of Switzerland. We look forward to welcoming you to the skies for an unforgettable experience!
