    Default Parking positions Geneva

Can anybody help me with some details regarding the allocation of parking positions/gates/stands at Geneva? Except for the Heavies, Freight and GA north of the runway, there is limited information available.
I'm primarily interested in information regarding the positions used for airliners. Useful information would also be if a distinction between Schengen and Non-Schengen is made, for example with the usage of the satellites.

I am do not know much. But here some informations:

    * Southern satellite can be activated for Schengen if needed, the others cannot. I always seen this satellite used in its 4 aircraft version (and never in its 8 one). I think that other parts of the airport can be used for Schengen, but do not know much more.

    * Gates 9-10-11 are the French sector (only flights to France, I.e. Airfrance and EasyJet only at the moment).

    * Gate 86 and around there were cargo, then heavies and then EasyJet. Not sure what they are now.

    * Sometimes some gates close to C parking can be used for EasyJet.

    * There are some new gates close to intersection B. I have seen some Swiss aircraft there.

do not know much more unfortunately

Forgot to add that gate 12 does not exist anymore IRL (when it was still here it was also a french sector gate).

How are the 20 stands used (can 21 and 22 be used at the same time)? What aircraft size can use these stands?

I assume that you speak about the gates located at the most western satellite (see picture)?

In this case I have never seen them being used. However, I measured on google maps and the distance between the 2 lines seems to be 30m (see picture). I expect then very small aircrafts to park there (wingspan less than 13m, probably even smaller).

Affirm. I just thought maybe they are used either or, so only every second of these parkings is used (always the right or always the left), this would make parkings of larger aircraft possible as well.

Well if you use only one of them, better use the « 123-5-7 » stand so you do not need to push afterwards. This is my logical thinking, do not know what the airport does then.

    Hi everyone,

So I have some news regarding parking positions in Geneva. I asked some simple questions to a friend of mine working for the airport in geneva in the operation center and got some full replies! And those deviate from what I have said before.

Nota: For my friend, gate refers to the what the passenger sees. Position to what the pilot sees.

    * Positions 1 to 5 (Gates A1 through A5) and positions 8 to 10 (Gates A8 through A10) are only Schengen (apparently you could disembark by bus non-shengen passengers at position 1, but this is rarely done).

    * positions 10 and 11: French sector -> So yes, position 10 can be Schengen or French sector and can therefore be reached by both sectors.

    * Satellite 20 (Gate D21, D23, D25 and D27, positions 121, 123, 125 and 127) is either full schengen or full non schengen (to avoid a mix of passengers). If really needed (e.g. an aircraft lands from a schengen airport and leaves to a non schengen airport), you can embark passengers to the plane by bus from gates A6 or A7 (or from a bus gate from the French sector if the flight were to fly to France) in order to have schengen and non-schengen planes parked at satellite 20.

    * Satellite 10. The satellite is often used in 100% Schengen or can be used 100% non-Schengen mode. Schengen Gates: D71,D72,D73,D74,D75,D76 and/or Non-Schengen gates: D81,D82,D83,D84,D85,D86) with positions 83 & 84 for code C aircrafts often used as Walk-In Walk-Out (WIWO) positions with gates D71/D81 and D75/D85. You can split the terminal into 2 areas (Schengen and Non-Schengen, however this is normally avoided for complex setup reasons. The terminal is not big enough to accommodate passengers of code E type aircrafts (but the position itself can handle a heavy aircraft if needed, but not done anymore due to the restriction of the terminal size).

*Satellite 30 and 40 are non-schengen only. Though possible, embarking or disembarking Schengen flights at satellites 30 and 40 by bus is however rare.

*Stand groups: 50-60-70-80-90 Can be Schegen or non schengen (or also french sector if needed) without specific rules, since passengers are embarked and disembarked by bus anyway. Therefore, all what I have said above about special cases with the satellites and buses should be avoides since we have all thoses stands for that.

*stands 14-19 are code E stands (i.e. hosting 1 category E aircraft per stand). With the new almost finished East Wing, positions 14, 15, 18 and 19 are MARS positions (Multiple Aircraft Ramp System) and will be able to be splitted in 2 (so hosting 2 category C aircrafts per stand). Position 14 can be split into positions 141 and 142, position 15 in 151 and 152, etc... This new terminal once finished will be non-schengen only. So if we have a heavy coming from schengen, it would need to go to a remote stand (I suppose around position 60 maybe? Or maybe 85? I have no idea, i will ask some clarifications!) with a disembarkment by bus.

Hope this helps to clarify the situation. Please do not hesitate to ask questions if you have some

    See you,
    Luca

    Thanks Luca!

Do you (or your friend) know where the split between PAX and freight is on the 70s? I guess that 73+ is only freight, but before? Maybe stands 71/72 are even multifunctional?

    So:

The parking positions that can handle heavy aircrafts can be found in Skybriefing and in the AIP. Does someone have access to that ?

All positions "70" can handle fret and pax, no special rules on what welcomes what apparently, but preference for pax on south west and fret on north east.

I have access to the AIP, but didn't find information regarding the parking position sizes. There is just a list with IRS reference positions.

    Where is satellite 10?

Satellite 10 is between link 1/inner and gate 83. Follow this link:

Isn’t there in the AIP a section explaining which position can welcome which aircraft category (C, D, E)? According to my friend there is, but he might be wrong of course!

Unless I'm blind there isn't, just looked through the aerodrome info on both the IFR AIP and the VFR manual, the remarks in AD 2.8/5 only talk about the taxiways, the stand info in AD 2.8/6 only has the coordinates

In many AIPs it is not entained, because aircraft are assigned to stands/gates by ground control (or tools, which do that job) and it is not the most relevant information to pilots. It is a matter of "give them as much information as possible, but leave stuff which is not essential."

Also because aircraft to stand assignement can change from one day to the other (e.g. due to construction work, like there was on E47 while I was working at Zurich which restricted the use to twin engine aircraft only.). Such situations might be handed out by NOTAM.

Ah! Wasn't aware. This is presumably the bus terminal, right? Is there any direct connection to any parking position?

Maybe you could walk to the 80's. But doesn't matter, as it's both S/NS.

Yes you can walk to the gate 83 and 84 (see google maps for the yellow zebras). I have done this once for the EasyJet flight 2.5 years ago, the flight was later canceled due to technical issues while we were already “boarding done” but not yet on the tarmac. So we never got to walk “outside”.

But indeed there is also transfer via bus from there (we can see on google maps too).
