    Default Real life ATC video from Geneva

    Hello Everybody,

    I have worked lately on a video relating a real life situtation that happened in Geneva. And I tought that you might enjoy watching it. The video consists of 2 atc recording mixed together.

    As a tower controller on vatsim during the last Real Operating Hours in Geneva (with more than 10 aircrafts at the holding point), I have lot of compassion for this tower controller.
    I think that this is good preparation for the next ROH if you are lucky enough to get a shift at the tower.
    Arrival controllers can also identify themselves in the video since the arrival controller audio is also present in the video.

    Here is the situation. Runway 23 is in use. The winds are changing quickly, and the planes are now landing with 7 knots tail wind. The decision is therefore made to change to runway 05. A sequencing is then planned. Due to the 7knt tailwind, the aircrafts have a high approach speed, and their separation in the ILS in time is therefore smaller than usual.
    An A320 is cleared to line up behind a landing business jet. This business takes some (too much) time to vacate, and the takeoff clearance is given very late. At this time, an Austrian embraer is 2 nm final. The controller decides to give the austrian a go around, but it's too late to stop the ezy who is really fast on the runway now. You can imagine what follows ;-)
    But the story doesn't end here. It is decided that the austrian will be vectored for 23 again, and therefore be the last one to land on 23. Two airplanes where already planned to land on 05, and the arrival controller has to delay his sequencing.
    And that when an Easyjet Switzerland checks-in with arrival (from BELUS), with a medical emergency. He is instructed to expect a direct approach for runway 05, he is number 1 to land on 05 in front of the two other aircraft which need to wait even more.
    On the ground, an aircraft that was waiting to takeoff just behind the Austrian, is recleared and asked to taxi to the other runway

    That's really cool!

    Just wondering, is there reason you choose to stay in TWR and didn't switch to APP as you zoomed out?

    Acutally I am using my arrival sector file. Just that my sector file is really empty. This is true that normally I display the MCA altitude. Otherwise, I like it "clean". I have second sector file called APP_MVA with the mva. And i switch between the 2 with F8 (or F7 i am not sure right now). On the main APP MCA sector, I only need MCA altitudes, triangle displaying the positions of specific waypoints, and then i display some of the routings via the tag
    To convince you that I am using APP and not TWR, on the APP you don't see vfr routings
    This is true that I could have displayed more things to make the video "better", but I just didn't think about that. Will do next time
