    Default [16 October 2016, 0400-2230z] Real Operating Hours - Geneva Edition 2016

    Have you ever…
… dreamed of ATC all day long?
… wished to have controllers guiding you on early morning approaches while the sun is rising?
… wanted to fly a four leg rotation with guaranteed service on your departure and arrival?
… hoped to get a whole day of ATC as real as it gets?
We make it happen again! After the successful launch of the first Real Operating Hours event in Zurich, it's now time to offer you this opportunity in Geneva (LSGG), which will be staffed on 16th October 2016 from 0400-2230z.

Complete your walk around in the dawn to be ready for a number of inter-europe rotations. Welcome your passengers on board and complete the boarding on time in order to not fall behind schedule on the very first leg. Enjoy the unusual long ILS approach for runway 23 over the Lake Geneva or vectors over mountainous terrain for runway 05, depending on the wind situation. As fog/mist is not unusual in the early morning hours at this time of the year, you might expect low visibility at ground levels. Even holdings might be assigned.

After the first wave of IFR traffic has quieten down, it's time for the small VFR aircraft to start their Sunday trip. The Valais and Vaud Alps are waiting for you just at the other end of Lake Geneva. And if you can't stop admiring the beautiful mountainous Swiss landscape, make a stop for example at Gruyère, Lausanne, Sion or Saanen-Gstaad for a coffee or lunch. Also helicopter trips are recommendable in this region. On the way back, take a look at Castle Chillon near Montreux and follow the vineyards back towards Geneva.

Enjoy a continous staffing on different positions and experience the Real Operating atmosphere. We look forward to you to liven the airport up on 16th October 2016 from 0400-2230z!

Many thanks to everybody involved in yesterdays event! I think we can say that also the Geneva - ROH was a great event!

I made a short evaluation of the traffic volume. (See below.)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Evaluation/Auswertung:

    Eventduration: 18.5h = 1110 min

    Geneva (LSGG):

    Arrivals: 190
    Departures: 160

    Total: 350

    Movement per time (Mpt):
    Movements per minute: 0.315; = One movement every 3.17 min = 3 min 10 s

This is an awesome ammount of traffic! The Mpt-value is a little bit blurred due to the "low" ammount during the first few, and really early, hours of the event. But the continuos high traffic load during the afternoon and evening brought it back on track.

As Zurich was used as a shuttle airport (LSGG - LSZH - LSGG) for many pilots during this event, I also analysed Zurich to have something to compare with. (Also because LSAS_CTR had to serve Zurich from clearance to hand-off to LSGG_ARR/LSAS_G_CTR)

    Zurich (LSZH):

    Arrivals: 59
    Departures: 91

    Total 150

    Movement per time (Mpt):
    Movements per minute: 0.135; = One movement every 7.4 min = 7 min 24 s

For comparison the real Geneva has around 500 IFR movements per day, so we got to 70% of an average day at Skyguide.
Not too bad considering the low traffic in the very early hours as Florian mentioned

And huge thanks also from my side to everyone involved!

Also a big Thanks from my side.

Let me add my small part of statistics that I made this morning

    In total, we had:
In Geneva : 107 hours and 29 minutes of ATC if you sum all contributions !
In Zurich : 16 houts and 11 minutes of ATC if you sum all contributions !

We get to a toal of 123 hours and 40 minutes, which represents 5 days and 9 hours. This is like staffing geneva from Monday 10 am to Saturday 7 pm.

This was really cool, I enjoyed and learned a lot! Thanks to Jonas for organizing!

To end this Post, here is a small video when Lionel was on the apron, Lennie on the Tower, Mark on the approach and André at the Radar!

    Cheers!

EDIT: There was a small issue with the intro of the vid. This has been changed with the new link for the new video.

Sadly, but for fairness every station of similiar level (e.g. _APP and _F_APP) are counted as one for the VATSIM-Ironmic award. :-/

But if you count every station together, you are right :-) Thank you very much for the video! (With wich programm did you do the timelaps?)
