Die vACC Schweiz lädt zu einem weiteren alpinen VFR Gruppenflug ein.

Wo: LSZL Locarno > LSGK Saanen
Abflug: Mittwoch, 31. August 2011, 2000loc


Treffpunkt ist Locarno (LSZL). Nach dem Abflug überfliegen wir Bellinzona und folgen dem Tal und der Autobahn A2 nordwärts via Biasca und Leventina-Tal bis Airolo. Während die A2 hier durch den Gotthardtunnel führt (für Flugzeuge eher ungeeignet), folgen wir dem Tal westwärts, bis wir den Nufenenpass (2‘478 M. ü M.) überquert haben. Weiter geht’s Richtung südwest dem Tal entlang, am Aletschgletscher vorbei via Visp Richtung Sion, wo die Kontrollzone des Flughafens Sion (LSGS) durchflogen wird. Weiter geht’s südwestlich bis Martigny, wo das Tal nach Nordwesten abknickt. Dem neuen Abschnitt folgen wir Richtung Genfersee, biegen aber kurz vorher – bei Aigle – wieder rechts ab und schlängeln uns erneut durch einige kleine Täler, bis wir den Zielflughafen Saanen (LSGK) erreichen. Die Flugzeit bei durchschnittlich 100kn beträgt ca. 1 Stunde 20 Min.

Wie beim letzten Gruppenflug gibt es wieder nur eine Route (ca. 170nm). Jedoch besteht die Möglichkeit, in Sion eine Zwischenlandung einzulegen.

Gerne weisen wir euch wieder auf die wichtigsten Flugtaktiken im Gebirge hin:

• auf richtige Gemischregulierung achten.
• generell wird auf der rechten Talseite geflogen.
• genügend Freiraum nach unten, Umkehrkurve muss jederzeit möglich sein.
• bei Einflug ins Tal sollte die Passhöhe bereits erreicht sein.
• Überflug Pass im 45° Winkel (siehe Grafik).
• Überflug Pass mit 1000ft Reserve über Grund.

Der Alpine Group Flight ist schon fast wieder vorbei. Ein herzliches Dankeschön an alle Piloten, die diesen Trip mitgemacht haben. Ich hatte noch nie eine solch volle Kontrollzone. muh

Ein Dankeschön den Controllern und den VFR-Piloten fürs Mitfliegen. Gab teils lustige Voice zu hören. Einziger Negativpunkt war die teils zu lange Belegung der Info-Frequenz durch Readbacks oder Initial Calls. Dadurch wurden exakte Positionsmeldungen fast verunmöglicht. Nach div. technischen Problemen habe ich dann trotzdem Saanen gefunden. CTR Sion über W abgemeldet, obwohl ich gar noch nicht rein geflogen bin.:tango: Habe vor Sion die Orientierung verloren.
@Tom -> Landetaxe Saanen habe ich ordungsgemäss dem Flugplatzchef in Form eines Bier's bezahlt.

Habe zwar CTR gebucht
- in der Annahme, die paar IFRs am Mittwochabend kriege ich noch locker neben dem FIS unter. Die paar waren dann doch ein paar mehr, und die haben mich ganz schön auf Trab gehalten. Danke Tom fürs Einspringen, ich habe bei der Gelegenheit beim Zuhören noch viel über FIS gelernt!
- Um Halb zehn war meine Stimme zu einem Gekrächze dezimiert, ich musste dann vor geplantem Schluss zumachen.

Hello everybody,

Before reading this, please keep in mind that I am writing this just for learning proposes and I am not accusing anybody... "VATSIM is a learning environment" (cit. HP) and sorry, but my german is not good enough to explain this few things, if somebody feels can help translating.

Locarno (LSZL/LSMO) is a quite complicated airport, small, with three runways crushed in a valley, therefore every aircraft has to stay in the assigned airspace and follow precise paths.

Yesterday I was controlling as LSZL_TWR and I noticed that almost nobody read the charts, in particular this.

Knowing that the outbound route for everybody was via Bellinzona (Arbedo is the standard report point), when the aircrafts were ready for departure I issued the following clearance

This means, cleared for take off, after departure, you will join downwind and climb to the altitude you like and you report me passing Bellinzona.

The first big mistake I noticed was, aircrafts turning on right hand downwind: if you look carefully the charts, you'll notice that in Locarno all the circuits are left and left only. (The lines north of the airport indicate the downwind for runway 08L - not 26R) This can be very dangerous, especially if there are arrivals for runway 26R: if there was an aircraft on final they would have crashed. Furthermore, some pilots that decided to turn right hand downwind did a circuit parallel to the runway and they invaded the parachute area overhead the field (highlighted in purple).

Let's see the mistakes of the pilots who decided to turn on the left hand downwind (that's correct :). All took off, went straight ahead and turned left 180° for downwind, turning back overhead the airport. The possibility of a conflict with an aircraft departing from 26C (grass) was very likely. If any pilot departed from this runway same time the crash was imminent! Also, south of the airport there is the sector L/G (highlighted in green) , which was active as stated in the ATIS, any aircraft crossing this sector in real life would incur into serious consequences.

So, what was the right thing to do? You can see in green the right path to follow. As per the charts you can see, after runway 26R an arrow turning slightly right (covered in my sketch). You need to do this right turn to ensure the separation with the aircrafts taking off from 26C and 26L, then you shall make a left turn and stay on the side of the mountain to avoid sector L/G and downwind of 26C and 26L, finally you'll have to climb and report passing Bellinzona, Arbedo, or when leaving the CTR.

Just few pilots reported one of the leaving points, but most of them reported me downwind, probably because I said

Again, this doesn't mean report on downwind: this means, CLIMB on downwind and report when overflying the point XXX, which almost nobody did.

So, after this big analysis is time for some conclusions:
-Study the charts, and familiarize with the airport (restricted areas, circuit,...)
-Plan and have clear in your mind which is the pattern you want to fly
-If you don't understand something: ASK. Asking is way better than flying the wrong way, which could lead to dangerous situations.
-If you are unsure ASK, before taking off, it's simpler clarify something when you are on the ground than when you are airborne and have to fly the aircraft same time.

I am very happy to see many pilots in Locarno and hope to see some VFR events soon again. Sorry if this post was so long but I wanted to explain in detail some things about this nice airport where I have the occasion to fly almost every week.

Kannst Du gleich wieder vergessen, meine Phraso hatte mit realen Verfahren nur sehr beschränkt zu tun. Grundsätzlich kann man FIS am Besten als einen Mix aus zwei Dingen zusammenfassen:
- prozeduralep Lotsen (Strips)
- Verbot, eine sinnvolle Anweisung zu geben

That's right. I also made immediatly a left turn after airborne on 26R to reach the downwind on the right side of Sector L/G Direction Cadenazzo.
I think the main problem is to realize the arrow after 26R direction Minusio. Then a left turn inside the CTR to reach the left hand downwind 26R.
I will do it better the next time and sorry for my bad english.

Hab ichs mir doch gedacht hehehe War etwas verwirrt als du dich gemeldet hast. Da aber auch ein technisches Problem nicht auszuschliessen war, ich Info zwecks zweiter Meinung grad nicht erreichen konnte und der Weg vor dir frei war, hab ich dich trotzdem zu Tom zurück geschickt und mich auf die Meute in deinem Schlepptau konzentriert.
